Occupy E.P.A. and Monsanto

Occupy the EPA!

What is the EPA doing to protect us from Monsanto?

Nothing. But, here's what they should be doing:

Monsanto's unlabeled genetically engineered foods are so pervasive in North American that babies are born with Monsanto's engineered genes coursing through their veins! Is this dangerous? Dangerous enough for France and other countries to ban gene-altered crops that scientists have found can kill human cells!

But the fact that a food is genetically engineered isn't the only thing that makes it dangerous. The other danger is what the crop was genetically engineered to do. What do Monsanto's Frankencrops do best? Drive up pesticide sales!

Despite their propaganda claims of being a "Life Sciences" company, Monsanto is a chemical and seed corporation. Despite their false promises about feeding the world and helping farmers grow more with less, the truth is that the only thing Monsanto has really accomplished through genetically engineering is to make farmers buy more pesticides, and drive up the price of patented seeds; meanwhile dumping billions of pounds of climate-destabilizing, water-polluting nitrate fertilizers on nutrient-depleted soils.

If Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) didn't increase pesticide use, and help them monopolize seed distribution, Monsanto and other chemical/biotech companies like Dow, Dupont, Bayer and Syngenta, wouldn't be pushing them.

If the Environmental Protection Agency ever got serious about protecting us and the environment from agri-toxic chemicals, the pesticides that these companies sell would be illegal. While the harms of GMOs are only beginning to be understood, the dangers associated with the herbicides and pesticides are well known.

SUPPORT THE OCF AND OCA

Help Us Reach Our Goal Before March 27!

We've passed the halfway mark in our special fundraising campaign to label GMOs, and we are still far short of our goal.

Please help us raise $150,000 by March 27 to help get the California Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act on the ballot and pass it in November.

You can make a secure donation online, via phone, or by mail.

If you've already contributed, thank you! If not, can you pitch in today? Every dollar you donate will help pay for signature gatherers, attorneys, media experts to get this law in front of the voters, pass it, and ultimately force GMO labeling nationally.

Study after study indicates that GMOs are bad for our health, bad for the environment.

This is the seminal battle for the right to know what's in our food - and we are up against the deep pockets of Big Biotech and Big Food. Every dollar counts. Thank you!

For more on this campaign, read this letter from Ronnie Cummins, the Director of the Organic Consumers Association and theOrganic Consumers Fund.

The claims made in a science activity book designed for schoolchildren are laughable - but they're being passed off as "science education."

Connecticut

The Connecticut bill for GMO labels is getting a lot of press attention, most of it supportive, but an unlikely opponent of consumers' right to know has taken up Monsanto's talking points. The Center for Science in the Public Interest, founder of Food Day and proponent of the Food Safety Modernization Act, has taken a public stance against mandatory GMO labels! Set the record straight!

Vermont

We have great news! Thanks to the vocal support from Vermonters all over the State, the Vermont House Agriculture Committee has been granted more time to consider the VT Right to Know Genetically Modified Food Act (H.722). The Committee heard two long and intense days of compelling testimony last Thursday and Friday, and will be doing more work on the bill this week. The Committee is then expected to take a vote on the bill within the next two weeks. There are many hurdles still to get over, but the bill continues to gain supporters within the State House. For more information on the campaign, or to make a donation in support of the efforts to label genetically engineered foods in Vermont visit here.

Hunger Strike Against Monsanto

David Kuhlmann hasn't eaten anything containing Monsanto's genetically engineered glyphosate-resistant crops since the beginning of March. In fact, he hasn't eaten anything. He's launched a hunger strike with the goal of banning Monsanto's RoundUp herbicide and "RoundUp Ready" GMO crops.

Place Your Order Today Through OCA's National Buying Club for Organic and Non-GMO Foods: The Green Polka Dot Box

The OCA-endorsed Green Polka Dot Box (GPDB) home delivery service for organic and non-GMO foods is up and running. Since October, OCA is happy to report that our staff, as well as hundreds of our members and subscribers, have been ordering and receiving regular home deliveries of organic and non-GMO foods, at 30-50% below the cost of retail, with free shipping on orders of $150 or more. As a result organic consumers who live in "organic food deserts," far from the nearest organic food store, have been able to start buying more organic food, while those of us on a limited budget have been able to buy organic products at a reduced price. In addition OCA has received thousands of dollars in commissions from the GPDB, based upon the total purchases of our members. We've been able to use this money to help pay for our GMO labeling and Millions Against Monsanto campaign, as well as our efforts to preserve organic standards.

More than 1,500 OCA network members have signed up in the Green Polka Dot Box to date. If you haven't tried this wonderful service, yet, please do so today and you will get a $10 discount off your first order, along with FREE Shipping ($75 minimum order).
