Children are uniquely vulnerable to chemicals, whether through environmental exposures, from household products, or even before birth. Yet the federal law intended to protect public health from toxic chemicals is essentially powerless to identify or take action on chemicals. After more than three decades, Congress is now considering changes to the statute that regulates most chemicals – the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Child advocates need to help make TSCA reform a priority in Congress. Presenters will discuss the impact of toxic chemicals on children's health, the failure of existing federal law, and how Congress can reduce the toll of chemicals on children's health. Speakers will be Nse Obot Witherspoon, MPH, executive director of Children's Environmental Health Network (CEHN) and Daryl Ditz, PhD, senior policy advisor with the Center for International Environmental Law. Shadi Houshyar, PhD, will moderate.
