Pepsi Centre urging patrons to be scent- and idle-free

"While it may not be able to strictly enforce it as policy, the Pepsi Centre is encouraging its patrons to avoid wearing scents and idling vehicles when attending the facility.
The request is actually an initiative of the local chapter of the Lung Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, which recently approached Pepsi Centre management about its interest in raising awareness of scents and idling vehicles, both of which can pose problems to people with respiratory ailments.
Forever Young Fitness Centre, located in the civic centre, already has a scent-free policy.
Barb Pike, a nurse and member of the gym for the last five years, said it only makes sense to try to spread the practice to the rest of the property.
"I think it is appropriate that any public building would have a policy like that," she said. "This issue encompasses everything about our lives now and just goes along with healthy living. So many people are sensitive to scents and we don't know it. You can't go around asking everybody if they are allergic, so it's easier to make it a universal policy.""
The mission of MCS America (MCSA) is to propagate medical, legal, and social recognition for multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) as a disorder of organic biological origin induced by toxic environmental insults; to provide support and referral services to the individuals with all illnesses of environmental origin; and to ensure that environmental toxicants are identified, reduced, regulated, and enforced through lobbying for effective legislation. © MCS America
