"Most people probably haven't heard of 1,2-dichloroethane, but the toxin could very well be in their homes from an unexpected source. Research conducted by Utah State University and Hill Air Force Base engineers shows the compound is present in some polyresin Christmas tree ornaments. When the decorations are in an enclosed space, the levels of 1,2-dichloroethane (DCA) rise above the Environmental Protection Agency's acceptable levels."
