Volunteer Opportunities

MCS America is now recruiting for the following four volunteer opportunities:

Newsletter Editor

Appointment and term: The Chief Editor appoints the Editors of the MCSA Newsletter. The Editors serve until removed or until he or she desires to resign with a 30-day advance notice.

Expenses and compensation:  The position is volunteer. 

Duties: The Editors is responsible for all aspects of publication associated with maintaining the MCSA Newsletter as a resource for MCSA members and MCS community. Primary duties include proof reading for grammar, spelling, accuracy, and weblinks as well as acting in a peer-review capacity.  In fulfilling this responsibility the Editors, under the direction of the Chief Editor, will ensure that when appropriate the newsletter contains (1) synopsis of monthly scientific MCS articles, (2) featured articles and cases, (3) MCSA information and news about and from MCSA members, (4) recent MCS law news when available, (5) new publications in the field, and Internet resources for the MCS community. In fulfilling this responsibility the Chair, under the direction of the President, will ensure that the mission, strategic plan, and integrity of MCS America are maintained.

The Newsletter editors participate in publishing 12 complete issues each year on a monthly basis.  Issues will typically be 30 full pages in length.

Committee Chair for the Lobbying Committee

Appointment and term: The MCSA President, with the approval of the MCSA Board of Directors and or Executive Committee, appoints the Committee Chair for the Lobbying Committee. The Chair serves until removed or until he or she desires to resign with a 30-day advance notice.

Expenses and compensation:  The position is volunteer. 

Duties: The Chair is responsible for all aspects of MCS America's lobbying efforts. Primary duties include recruitment of committee members, research into lobbying strategies, planning and strategizing, and actually lobbying congressional leaders for change in a variety of venues.  In fulfilling this responsibility the Chair, under the direction of the President, will ensure that the mission, strategic plan, and integrity of MCS America are maintained.

The Chair leads a Lobbying Committee Meeting in a chat room or on a conference call on a monthly basis.

Committee Chair for the Resources Committee

Appointment and term: The MCSA President, with the approval of the MCSA Board of Directors and or Executive Committee, appoints the Committee Chair for the Resources Committee. The Chair serves until removed or until he or she desires to resign with a 30-day advance notice.

Expenses and compensation:  The position is volunteer. 

Duties: The Chair is responsible for all aspects of MCS America's pubic resources. Primary duties include recruitment of committee members, research into resources, maintaining medical and dental provider lists, creating new brochures/signs/posters, and establishing and maintaining state resources for state chapters.  In fulfilling this responsibility the Chair, under the direction of the President, will ensure that the mission, strategic plan, and integrity of MCS America are maintained.

The Chair leads a Resources Committee Meeting in a chat room or on a conference call on a quarterly basis.

Committee Chair for Proclamations Committee

Appointment and term: The MCSA President, with the approval of the MCSA Board of Directors and or Executive Committee, appoints the Committee Chair for the Proclamations Committee. The Chair serves until removed or until he or she desires to resign with a 30-day advance notice. The active duty period for this position is December thru May, proclamation season, of each year.

Expenses and compensation:  The position is volunteer. 

Duties: The Chair is responsible for requesting MCS proclamations from all 50 states and as many cities and counties as possible. Primary duties include recruitment of committee members, contacting governor's offices, requesting proclamations, up dating the proclamation request text, following up, and scanning all proclamations to the webmaster.  In fulfilling this responsibility the Chair, under the direction of the President, will ensure that the mission, strategic plan, and integrity of MCS America are maintained.

The Chair leads a Proclamations Committee Meeting in a chat room or on a conference call on a bi-weekly basis during proclamation season.
